Best Plug-In Solar Kits UK 2026

The UK plug-in solar market is still young and the range of products is smaller than in Germany, but there are already some solid options available. Here is what is worth buying in 2026, who each kit suits, and what to watch out for.

All prices are correct as of May 2026 but the market is moving quickly. Check current pricing before you buy.

EcoFlow STREAM 800W Kit

Price: From around £499 (panels + microinverter) via Amazon UK and specialist retailers
Best for: First-time buyers who want a simple, reputable system with a clear upgrade path

EcoFlow is the government’s named technology partner for the UK plug-in solar rollout, and the STREAM is their entry-level product for this market. It pairs high-quality panels with their purpose-built microinverter in a package designed for balcony, garden and terrace installations. Setup is straightforward and the companion app gives you real-time generation data from day one.

The STREAM supports battery expansion using EcoFlow’s modular battery range, so you can start panel-only and add storage later without replacing anything. This modularity is one of the stronger arguments for choosing EcoFlow over lesser-known brands. It is almost certainly the product that will appear on Lidl and Iceland shelves once retail certification is complete.

Worth knowing: EcoFlow’s microinverter warranty is five years, shorter than the ten to twelve years offered by some competitors. Factor this into a long-term cost comparison.

EcoFlow PowerStream

Price: From £209 (microinverter only); complete kits vary by configuration
Best for: Households with higher electricity consumption who want smart self-consumption optimisation

The PowerStream is EcoFlow’s more capable system. It connects to your home’s smart meter and adjusts its output in real time to match your actual electricity consumption, which reduces the amount of surplus that flows back to the grid unpaid. Combined with a time-of-use tariff and EcoFlow’s battery storage, it is the most financially efficient setup on the UK market right now.

The app is detailed and genuinely useful, offering historical generation and consumption data, smart scheduling, and integration with third-party smart home platforms. If you are interested in energy management beyond simple generation, the PowerStream earns its higher price.

Worth knowing: More complex to configure than the STREAM. If you want something simple, the STREAM is the better starting point.

Hoymiles Microinverter with Third-Party Panels

Price: From around £120 to £150 for the microinverter; panels from around £100 to £200 per 400W panel
Best for: Budget-conscious buyers who are comfortable sourcing and combining components

Hoymiles is one of the most widely used microinverter brands in European plug-in solar systems and has an excellent reputation for reliability. Their microinverters carry a ten-year warranty, significantly longer than EcoFlow’s five years, and they are CE and UKCA marked. Pairing a Hoymiles unit with your own choice of monocrystalline panels can produce a high-quality system at a lower total cost than a branded bundle.

The trade-off is that you are responsible for sourcing compatible components and ensuring the overall setup meets G98 requirements. This suits buyers who are technically comfortable and want to get the best value. If you want everything to arrive in one box and just work, a branded kit is easier.

Worth knowing: Hoymiles microinverters are widely used in Germany’s Balkonkraftwerk installations. They have an established track record at scale that most newer entrants do not.

Anker SOLIX RS40P

Price: Approximately £350 to £500 depending on configuration
Best for: Buyers who want strong warranty coverage and a polished app experience

Anker entered the plug-in solar market through their SOLIX brand and have produced a credible system. The RS40P microinverter carries a twelve-year warranty, the longest standard warranty of any product widely available in the UK market. The SOLIX app is well-designed and provides clear generation monitoring. Panel quality is solid.

Anker’s brand reputation from consumer electronics carries over here: the product feels finished and the documentation is clear. It is a good choice for buyers who want peace of mind over the longest possible warranty term.

Worth knowing: Less established in the UK than EcoFlow and does not yet have the same retail distribution. Check availability before committing.

What to look for in any kit

Regardless of brand, check these things before buying:

  • CE or UKCA marking on the microinverter. This confirms it has been tested against relevant safety standards.
  • G98 compliance confirmed in the product documentation.
  • 800W or lower output rating. The UK regulatory limit is 800W.
  • Anti-islanding protection in the microinverter. This is a legal requirement for any grid-connected system.
  • At least a 25-year performance warranty on the panels and ten or more years on the microinverter.

What about kits from Lidl and Iceland?

The government confirmed both retailers as partners in the UK plug-in solar rollout. Neither has launched yet in the UK, pending the BSI product standard expected around July 2026. Based on Lidl Germany’s pricing, UK kits are likely to land between £350 and £500. Iceland’s positioning is less clear. We will update this page when retail dates and prices are confirmed.

Should you buy now or wait for retail?

If you have south-facing outdoor space and your summer electricity bill is significant, there is a real cost to waiting through the peak generation months. EcoFlow kits are available now and are not going to become non-compliant when Lidl launches. If budget is a primary consideration and you can wait until autumn, retail pricing may be slightly more competitive. For most people, buying now from a reputable supplier is the better financial decision.
